About Me

My name is Nathaniel (“Than”) Dunlap, and I’m running to be the next mayor of Brighton.

About Me

I was born and raised in New Hampshire and studied business at Babson College in Massachusetts. I spent winters skiing and snowboarding on the cold, icy east coast slopes. Growing up in New England, I only knew Brighton through magazines and videos playing on loop at the local board shop. It was a mythical place where it snowed every day and the legends of snowboarding rode.

That changed in March of 1998, when I visited Big Cottonwood Canyon during a spring break trip. One run on Milly was all it took – I knew I had found my home. A week after graduation, I packed my bags, and drove out to Utah.

Since then, I’ve built my life here. I started out working for a software company, spent nearly every free moment at Brighton Resort, and even joined a local snowboard company’s R&D team. In 2004, I founded a software firm that I ran for over 20 years before recently selling my interest. Today, I work independently, which gives me the freedom to focus on public service and the mountains I love.

I’ve lived in Big Cottonwood Canyon since 2012 – first in Solitude Village, and since 2015, in Silver Fork, where I still call home.
