Staying Focused on the Issues That Matter
Back in June, my opponent and I met privately and agreed to run clean campaigns focused on the issues. There’s so much positive energy and enthusiasm in Brighton – the last thing either of us wanted was to tarnish this vibrant spirit of civic engagement with the smears and mudslinging that define so much of our nation’s politics.
We have both respected that commitment, and I think it speaks highly of Scotty’s integrity – and mine.
Unfortunately, in recent days I’ve seen a few false and malicious comments posted online by individuals I barely know, or have never met. Anyone who knows me knows I care about the issues that actually matter and won’t be provoked by trolls into responding to baseless personal attacks.
The good news is, the fact that they’ve resorted to lies, distortions, and exaggerations means they’re afraid I might win.
At first, I was dismissed as a non-serious challenger. Now they see that my message is resonating and that people agree with my vision for the community. But rather than debate the issues, they’ve reached for the same tired playbook that’s as old as politics itself – vilify the candidate with ad hominem attacks.
Don’t fall for it. They are attempting to deceive and mislead voters with accusations that have no basis in reality. It’s disappointing that a small group of trolls would sacrifice civility and honesty in our local politics just to score cheap political points. Brighton deserves better.
Let’s show them on November 4 that their toxic and divisive brand of politics doesn’t work here. Thank you to everyone who has supported my campaign for mayor.
